The three albuns dedicated to the most raunchy, erotic beat film music from the vaults of Italian 60s & 70s cinema. Brass pasta sound for hot nights from some of the most acclaimed Italian composers of all time: Bruno Nicolai, Pierro Piccioni, Armando Trovajoli, Luis Bacalov, Riz Ortolani. CD comes with a 24-page booklet with numerous poster-reproductions and stills all 'dente as well as extensive liner notes.

A goofily irreverent (and, perhaps, irrelevant) collection of musical moments from the sleazier side of the Italian cinema. No sign of Ennio Morricone on this volume, but there is plenty of Piero Piccioni, who dominates the album with a mixture of lounge and off-kilter pop. Bruno Nicolai has a single cut, as does Luis Bacalov. The real highlight, though, is Armando Trovaioli's "Bada Caterina," with its delightful vocals by Carmen Villani. Meanwhile, the album design is, well, interesting -- especially the inlay pictures of European sexploitation film magazines. A cute series that is well worth seeking out.

Shawn Lee & Clutchy Hopkins - Funk, Downtempo, Indie Rock (USA)

They're back! Fascinating Fingers is a brand new batch of collaborative tracks from the unstoppable Mr Lee and the anonymous one, known as Clutchy Hopkins. No, they're not the same person, and no, we don't know who he is yet! Sorry…Raiding their collective musical inspirations and instrument collections waaay deeper than on their debut, Fascinating Fingers brings out the best in both artists. The album boasts full string sections, madcap worldly instrumentation, a guest appearance from UK group The Superimposers, and it's all backed by some serious Mojave marauding beats. 

Shawn Lee and the still anonymous Clutchy Hopkins are two prolific dudes. Fascinating Fingers is their second collaboration in less than a year and each released individual albums within the same length of time, while Lee collaborated with Money Mark on the Lord Newborn & Magic Skulls project this past fall. The creative well seems far from dry, as this is a more cohesive and unified effort than 2008's Clutch Of The Tiger. First and foremost, this is an exercise in funky atmosphere. "70 mph Isn't Fast Enough To Get Out Of Nebraska" sounds like it could have been an outtake from Herbie Hancock's Death Wish soundtrack, driven by a foreboding down tempo beat, with strong flourishes of keyboard and a hauntingly cinematic string arrangement, while the languid "Cross Rhodes" is an almost meditative piece of mellow soul. Turn out the lights, put on your headphones and dig some Fascinating Fingers.

Nino Rota - Cinematic Music for Federico Fellini

Nino Rota and Federico Fellini are the definitive composer-director team. They are Italian cinema and they are internationally famous. This compilation features a number of Rota scores, Toby Dammit, the soundtrack of which is the centerpiece of this compilation is a cinematic masterpiece and widely regarded as the most eloquent example of film psychedelia. Nino Rota is seen as very contemporary and this compilation will be of interest to the same discerning public who have purchased the highly successful Ennio Morricone compilations from EL Records. The music of Nino Rota is the timeless sound of Italy; a mixture of romance, surrealism and madness. Almost all of the Fellini films are landmarks in cinema history and both the director and composer were extremely popular.

Alex Puddu's "Golden Age of Danish Pornography", a cult series of soundtrack-like tracks inspired by the unmistakable sounds of the '60s and the '70s. As usual, Alex is doing (almost) everything by himself - writing, arranging, producing and performing with a little help from a few trusty friends. Disco funk, tribal and exotic percussions, smooth Memphis soul riffs, fuzzy guitars, interstellar synths, electric sitar, wild vocals, groovy saxophones and trumpets, all of this and much more can be found in this incredible record!

Alex Puddu is one of the most direct and creative artists and composers of our day; a multi-instrumentalist with visions and skills. He was born in Rome in 1967 and moved to Copenhagen, Denmark in the summer 1987. He began his music career as a drummer at the age of fifteen. He is truly devoted to the Italian vintage sound of the giallo/polizziottesco and horror movies from the early seventies: Jazz/percussive, psych-groove. His work is inspired by soundtrack maestros such as Piccioni, Umiliani, Cipriani, Morricone, Ferrio, De Masi and Micalizzi.

Alex Puddu released his first solo album "Chasing The Scorpion's Tail" with his cinematic band Alex Puddu and the Butterfly Collectors on the Danish label April Records followed later on by four other albums. Over the past couple of years (2010/11), Alex has been very productive working on new sounds and compositions for soundtracks - writing, arranging, and producing no less than four soundtracks: "Eastern Army", "Mosaic", "Hell is Other People" and the latest: "The Golden Age of Danish Pornography". Recently, he has been recording his new album "Registrazioni al Buio" to be out 2013.

The Cordara Orchestra - Funk, Jazz & Soul (Italian)

A great collection of tracks by the Cordara Orchestra. Led by sleazy listening great Carlo Cordara, of course. Plenty of variety and lots to love on this disc.

The Cordara Orchestra is another member of the Italian rare groove club along with the likes of the Barigozzi Group, I Gres, I Marc 4, Arawak, Freedom Power, Blue Sharks and Pulsar Music Ltd. Ably led by Carlo Cordara, you will find plenty of the prerequisite organ, piano and flute combined with laid back guitar and restrained drumming. Pleasingly there are a number of tracks that fall into the category of crime jazz with the best examples being "Hypotesis" ( a misspelling of hypothesis I presume ) and the two versions of "Target". The occasional moments of funk such as opening number "Tipsy" are most welcome and add another dimension to this very impressive compilation. You can also find several Cordara Orchestra tracks scattered through the Mo'Plen series which can be found in my compilations section.
