"Antonio's Giraffe" finds some of the best musicians in funk, soul, hip-hop, and jazz paying homage to the great Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim with a platter of all original material. Many of the album's musicians are known as phenomenal producers, bandleaders and creators in their own right. Money Mark (Beastie Boys), Mike Clark (The Headhunters, Herbie Hancock), Printz Board (Black Eyed Peas, Nate Dogg, Macy Gray), Alex Veley (Maktub, Dolemite), Larry Crane (Brand X) and Skerik (Critters Buggin, Les Claypool).
Under the direction of composer, producer, and conductor Aja West, this super group sounds crisp and clean, traversing the groove territory pioneered by groups like Steely Dan, Weather Report, Herbie Hancock, and Miles Davis. Played with the sensibilities of musicians that have recorded and rocked with some of today’s biggest legends in hip-hop and soul.
"Antonio's Giraffe" manifests South American and African tinged performances utilizing some of Jobim’s favorite instruments: flute, trumpet, vibes, trombone, and plenty of percussion.
