John Lee Hooker (Blues)

John Lee Hooker (August 22, 1917 – June 21, 2001) was an American blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist. The son of a sharecropper, he rose to prominence performing an electric guitar-style adaptation of Delta blues. Hooker often incorporated other elements, including talking blues and early North Mississippi Hill country blues. He developed his own driving-rhythm boogie style, distinct from the 1930s–1940s piano-derived boogie-woogie.

Some of his best known songs include "Boogie Chillen'" (1948), "Crawling King Snake" (1949), "Dimples" (1956), "Boom Boom" (1962), and "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" (1966). Several of his later albums, including The Healer (1989), Mr. Lucky (1991), Chill Out (1995), and Don't Look Back (1997), were album chart successes in the U.S. and U.K. The Healer (for the song "I'm In The Mood") and Chill Out (for the album) both earned him Grammy wins as well as Don't Look Back, which went on to earn him a double-Grammy win for Best Traditional Blues Recording and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals (with Van Morrison).

EPIDAURUS were a mid seventies German progressive outfit formed around 1976. Their first album showed that they were firmly rooted in the early 70's progressive style of YES, PINK FLOYD and fellow German rockers, ELOY. This album were Symphonic rock at its best, with mellotron, lots of keyboards and a beautiful female voice. "Earthly Paradise" is a classic prog album, serving a mellifluous mélange of melodic Mellotron and Moog. A second album, "Endangered", featuring songs from 1978 rerecorded in the nineties, was released in October/November 1994. The first three songs are great, the rest almost drifts away to pop regions. This album, although carrying on in a similar vein to the debut, wasn't particularly well received either and the band split in 1995.

Corinne Jacqueline Bailey Rae (born 26 February 1979) is a British singer and songwriter from Leeds, West Yorkshire. Bailey Rae was named the number-one predicted breakthrough act of 2006 in an annual BBC poll of music critics, Sound of 2006. She released her debut album, Corinne Bailey Rae, in February 2006, and became the fourth female British act in history to have her first album debut at number one. In 2007, Bailey Rae was nominated for three Grammy Awards and three Brit Awards, and won two MOBO Awards. In 2008, she won a Grammy Award for Album of the Year (for her work as a featured artist in Herbie Hancock's River: The Joni Letters).

Bailey Rae released her second album, The Sea, on 26 January 2010, after a hiatus of almost three years. It was produced by Steve Brown and Steve Chrisanthou (who produced her debut album in 2006). She was nominated for the 2010 Mercury Prize for Album of the Year. In 2012, she won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance for "Is This Love" (a cover of the Bob Marley and the Wailers song of the same name). Bailey Rae was married to fellow musician Jason Rae from 2001 until his death in 2008, and as part of the grieving process, she channelled her emotions into her music. Her first two albums have together sold over five million copies worldwide.

On 26 February 2016, Bailey Rae announced her third album, The Heart Speaks in Whispers, which was released on 13 May 2016. The Heart Speaks in Whispers debuted at No. 2 on Billboard's R&B chart.

Grand Theft Auto (GTA) - Vice City OST

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Official Soundtrack Box Set is a seven-disc compilation CD box set containing music from the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, each disc representing one of the game's seven music radio stations. It was released internationally on October 29, 2002. As well as the complete box set, the seven CDs were also released for purchase individually.

European editions of several of the CDs contain extra songs that are not found on US pressings (some of these songs do not actually appear in the game itself). Although the majority of the music from the game is included on the soundtracks, most of the CDs do not feature every song heard on the relevant radio station — in the US, only the Emotion 98.3 CD is complete, while in Europe the Emotion 98.3 and Fever 105 soundtracks are complete.

In addition to music, each CD also includes several specially-recorded DJ tracks containing dialogue from the station's host and station idents, plus two radio commercials heard in the game. With the exception of the Wildstyle disc, the final commercial track on each CD additionally contains an unlisted DJ talk segment hidden after a lengthy pause, containing further humorous dialogue from the station host (which typically results in their being fired or storming out of the recording studio).

The two talk radio stations heard in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (KCHAT, VCPR) did not receive a CD release and as such have never been released outside of the game. A Greatest Hits compilation CD was also released in North America the following year, containing a selection of songs from the full set plus the "Theme from Vice City".

Initially called The CAGE, this trippy West Coast psych band from the 60's were quite sophisticated for their time. They started off in 1968 when keyboardist Bill Cosby joined forces with guitarist Dave Padwin and two female musicians, namely bassist Carolyn Lee and drummer Dora Wahl. All four were either classically trained or seasoned club veterans, Cosby himself being a UCLA music major. Evolving smack in the middle of the flower power era, they played their blistering rockers and wispy melodies quite convincingly, borrowing from jazz, classical music, avant-garde and rock. On the psychedelic side, they were definitely more song oriented than, say, early PINK FLOYD; although they did pour a mean dose of organ on their self-titled LP, released in 1969. Unfortunately, a year later Cosby got drafted and the band broke up. Their album is a fascinating testimony of a different time and place. Highly organ dominated, it has just about everything one would expect from a late 60's album: driving rhythms, heavy guitar riffs, trippy Farfisa organ and cool, groovy male/female vocals by Cosby and especially Lee who delivers her druggy, cosmic lyrics with style. Their solos are concise and they know how to lock into a groove without jamming aimlessly, as did so many bands of that era. They also know how to structure songs that best display their strengths although in retrospect, it is their softer tunes that seem to have aged better, especially those with a nice gothic/classical feel. The CD version, which was recorded from the master tapes, comprises five bonus tracks, all of them instrumental versions of songs from the LP. Highly recommended to collectors of early psychedelia, particularly to fans of the band IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY.

Canned Heat turned up the blues rock boogie thermostat during the recording sessions for the Internal Combustion LP. The shuffled deck 1996 release of Gamblin' Woman expands on the '94 release of Internal Combustion, with the sterno set interspersed with bonus tracks pulled from the Reheated album packed onto the compact disc. Rollin' behind a total of sixteen songs, with "Nothing at All" leading off Gamblin' Woman, Canned Heat cook on their exhaust-emitting cover of "Take Me to the River", while guitarist Junior Watson stands out from the nearly seventy minute re-issue.
