CHEECH & CHONG Soundtracks

Cheech & Chong are a Grammy Award–winning comedy duo consisting of Richard "Cheech" Marin and Tommy Chong who found a wide audience in the 1970s and 1980s for their films and stand-up routines, which were based on the hippie and free love era, and especially drug and counterculture movements, most notably their love for cannabis. The duo met in Vancouver, British Columbia in the late 1960s. Chong was a Canadian citizen, and Cheech had moved there from Southern California to avoid the draft at the height of the Vietnam War. The pair performed stand-up shows, released many successful comedy record albums, and starred in a series of low-budget films. Some of their best-known comedy routines and songs include "Earache My Eye", "Basketball Jones", "Santa Claus and His Old Lady", and "Sister Mary Elephant". Perhaps their most famous line is "Dave's not here", from their self-titled debut album.

Their early success culminated with the release of their first feature-length movie, Up in Smoke, in 1978. It became something of a cult classic, and was also successful enough at the box office (grossing over $44 million despite a low budget) to warrant two sequels: Cheech and Chong's Next Movie in 1980, and Nice Dreams in 1981. These were followed by the less successful Things Are Tough All Over (1982) and Still Smokin (1983). The pair attempted a departure from their stoner comedy with 1984's Cheech & Chong's The Corsican Brothers. Tommy Chong directed four of their films while co-writing and starring in all seven with Cheech Marin.  They also appeared in smaller supporting roles in Graham Chapman's Yellowbeard and Martin Scorsese's After Hours.

In 1985 the duo released their album Get Out of My Room, which included the novelty hit song, "Born in East L.A." (based on Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the U.S.A."). This song would later serve as the basis for 1987 film of the same name, in which Cheech Marin played the starring role. Immediately following the release of the album, Cheech Marin separated himself from the pair's drug-inspired act by working on a solo career.

Mais uma grande descoberta do Brother Ricardo...

Fala Java,

Messengers Incorporated - Funk & Soul (USA)

Ultra-hip funk from Oklahoma's Messengers Incorporated -- a group who come across with a sound that's every bit as righteous and heavy as you might guess from the cover! Instrumentation is heavy on bass, guitar, and organ -- and topped with some great saxophone work too -- all in a sound that's draws plenty of inspiration from righteous jazz of the early 70s, but which focuses the sound into a more funk-based approach overall. Vocalists shift throughout -- and include singers Barbara and Charles Burton, later of Burton Inc -- who help give the record as much of a soul-based punch alongside the jazzy instrumentation of the combo! The whole thing's a real heavy hitter -- the kind of album that could have soared large, had it gotten wider release back in the day -- and titles include "Rejoice", "Just Can't Run Away", "Soulful Proclamation", "Frequency Response", "Ain't No Mountain", "Twenty Four Hours A Day", and "If I'Da Club".[Dusty Groove America]

EVERON - Heavy Prog • Germany

1989, Krefeld, Germany. Ralf JANSSEN (guitar), Christian MOOS (drums) and SCHYMY (bass) had been playing together for a couple of years and had experienced the usual hardship that any band in its initial stages has to face. Musical direction was one thing, finding the right singer was another. At that point, they got in contact with Oliver PHILIPPS through an advert in the music press. PHILIPPS and his band JESTER'S PALACE already had two recordings under their belts but unfortunately split up. With PHILIPPS the sense of direction arrived and EVERON was born. Using modern MIDI equipment to the max, the band started shaping a high-tech sound around the songs which were and still are a delicate mix of melody and power.

A meeting got them in touch with Eroc, former drummer of famous German cult band GROBSCHNITT and now a name producer in his own right, selling several hundreds of thousands of albums in Germany alone with Phillip BOA. Eroc, very much taken by the band, offered them the use of his Woodhouse Studios, where they started recording their debut album ''Paradoxes'' under Eroc's productional guidance. Late 1992, with the album nearing completion, the band had received offers from just about every independent progressive rock label, and in the end signed with SI music.

Another coincidence occurred when a stunning piece of artwork in a book caught their eyes. After a long search they tracked down the whereabouts of the artist in question, Gregory Bridges, in Australia. Presented with the rough recordings of the album, Bridges got all fired up and offered to design the complete package.

''Paradoxes'' was released in May 1993 and soon became one of the two best selling albums in the SI music catalogue, the band supported FISH in front of an audience of many thousands during an outdoor festival in the Netherlands, the album got 9 out of 10 points in "Heavy Oder Was" (Germany), 8 out of 10 in the leading Japanese metal magazine "Burrn!", and was voted discovery of the year by most of the specialised press. After ''Paradoxes'' had spent several weeks in the Top 10 of the Japanese import charts, the album was picked up and released by Zero Corporation, distributed by Toshiba/EMI, beating four other Japanese companies in the process. In short, certainly on an independent level the album had become everything the band had hoped for and provided the foundation for the future.

During the summer of 1994, Everon returned to Eroc and the all new and improved Woodhouse Studios to record ''Flood''. Unfortunately, SI music went bankrupt after a short while, sales found a sudden end, and all further plans had to be cancelled. So that was a big disappointment for the band, and for a while they were thinking about splitting up.

But after a few months EVERON found that the only motivation they really needed to go on was the music itself. So they started writing new material, putting all the anger and frustration, but also the passion and enthusiasm they had into it. They worked harder on the new album than on anything else before, and asked Gregory Bridges to do another one of his designs. The result of all this was their album ''Venus'', which was released in 1997 by their new label Mascot Records.

PHILIPPS and MOOS also established their own recording studio called SpaceLab. Although Eroc didn't produce this album, he was a big help again. After the release of ''Venus'', JANSSEN left the band due to the lack of motivation and interest. He was replaced by musical newcomer Ulli HOEVER. In 1998 SpaceLab became successful when the band started recording demos and albums for several European bands.

In the year 2000, with their 4th album ''Fantasma'', introduced HOEVER and live keyboardist Oliver THIELE. The album was produced by PHILIPPS and MOOS at SpaceLab Studios, and with another artwork from Gregory Bridges.

Anyway, the band played a couple of festivals during Y2K. Unfortunately, shortly before the release of their new 2002 albums, THIELE left the band. ''Bridge'' and ''Flesh'' were released, again with cover artworks done by Gregory Bridges. After searching for a new keyboardist for a couple of months, Oliver decided to play the piano himself again on stage.

In spring 2003 the band finally entered the stage again, starting at the "French Progressive Festival", Sarlat, France. The band played more gigs in 2003 than in any other year before. In 2003 also a CD single was released, entitled ''Missing From The Chain'', to be used exclusively for radio-promotion purposes. EVERON'S latest album ''North'' was released in April 2008.

According to the original biography in ProgArchives, written by Claude Bpl, ''EVERON play heavy progressive music greatly influenced by RUSH, SAGA and PALLAS. Nice melodious songs with hard-rocking guitar riffs and vocals by Oliver PHILIPPS appear on their debut album "Paradoxes" (1993), but "Fantasma" is the best work they ever did. Although it is a bit heavier than previous albums, it combines progressive complexity, emotional melodies and a powerful sound. Progressive Rock with energetic, powerful songs and intimate pieces, that's what it's all about!''

Sabattıs - Hard Rock (USA)

US hard rock quartet recorded their only in March 1970 in New York,  but it remained unreleased until March 2011. Tight sound with sharp guitar and stunning organ. The recordings were transferred from a 1/4 Reel tape that had been dubbed from the original master tape. There are some tape drop-outs biss and warble issues from time to time, this because of the quality and condition of source material.

Personnel:
- Jim Marvin - guitar, lead vocals
- Gary Culotta - keyboards, vocals
- Rocky Kaler - bass
- Larry Wegman - drums

Stan Kenton - Jazz (USA)

Stanley Newcomb Kenton (December 15, 1911 – August 25, 1979) was an American popular music and jazz artist. As a pianist, composer, arranger and band leader, he led an innovative and influential jazz orchestra (1940s through '70s) garnering many successes across several music genres. Though Kenton was to have several pop hits from the early 1940s into the 1960s, much like earlier band leader Paul Whiteman, he categorized his music as forward looking. In Kenton's own words, it was "progressive jazz".[1][2] He was also on the cutting edge of jazz education in creating the Stan Kenton Band Clinics starting in the late 1950s.

Dreams of Sanity - Gothic Metal (Austria)

Dreams of Sanity was a gothic metal band from Austria. Founded in 1991, they released three full-length albums, before disbanding in 2002. Many of their songs are about Buddha. Their most famous song, "Window to the Sky", deals with the loneliness and despair of enlightenment, and is based on legends of Gautama Buddha's experiences in isolation beneath the Bodhi Tree. After forming in 1991, Dreams of Sanity released two demos in 1994 and 1996. They toured Europe late in 1996 before releasing their proper debut in 1997, which was inspired by The Divine Comedy of Dante Alighieri. Two further full-lengths were issued by the band, the first based upon Phantom of the Opera and the second exploring the concept of life as a game. The group went through a series of lineup changes around the recording of the third album. Following this they were dropped by their label Hall of Sermon; the group broke up in 2002.
