Geoffrey Downes (Stockport, 25 de agosto de 1952) é um tecladista inglês de rock progressivo, melhor conhecido pela sua participação no Asia e rápida passagem no Yes em 1980. Em sua rápida passagem pelo YES, ele contribuiu para o ábum DRAMA. Posteriormente, Downes reuniu-se com Steve Howe (de Yes), Carl Palmer (de Emerson, Lake & Palmer) e John Wetton (de King Crimson) para formar o Asia em 1981. A banda teve sucesso imediato com o lançamento do álbum de estréia auto intitulado em 1982, e formou a base para a carreira de Downes desde então, além de lhe render o Guiness como tecladista com a maior quantidade de teclados em um palco . Por vários anos ele foi o único membro fundador remanescente da banda. Recentemente, Downes reuniu-se com Wetton em projetos paralelos até que a formação original do Asia retornou em 2006, assim permanecendo até o presente visto que nunca anunciaram o fim da banda.  Downes também gravou vários álbuns solo e colaborou com outros artistas, incluindo Trapeze em 1991 para uma turnê e uma breve aparição no álbum Sat in Your Lap de Kate Bush. Retornou para o grupo Yes em 2011.

Four of these tracks had been released on compilations before, but this is the FIRST TIME they have been collected together with TWO PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED tracks PLUS one alternate mix.

My initial reaction was not entirely positive as I generally view many of these re-releases to be a bit tiresome, however, upon hearing these recordings again I immediately identified their value, both in terms of song writing and of musicianship and production. Geoff, of course, is a masterful musician with an instinctive ability to maximise the potential of any song both as a player and as an arranger. O Black Sonora vem com a idéia clara de somar, experimentar e influenciar o meio. A força do som sai do meio artístico para o meio da rua, passando pelo soul, samba-funk, hip-hop e outras ramificações da black music, sendo influenciada por Jorge Benjor, Jackson do Pandeiro, Marku Ribas, Tim Maia, Buena Vista Social Club. Com músicos dos mais diversos estilos e variadas influências culturais, já se apresentou em praticamente todos os espaços culturais da capital mineira, sendo admirada por grande parte do público belohorizontino.

Desde 2002 os integrantes Gustavo Negreiros (voz e guitarra), Rubén “Cubanito” Santillana (voz e percussão), Luiz Prestes (baixo), Ronan Teixeira (bateria), Helton Rezende (guitarra), Bruno Lima (percussão) e DJ Yuga (samplers, intervenções e percussão) vêm se aglomerando para criar um registro sonoro brasileiro, rimando mineiro com cubano, soul urbano com influência do meio, juntando as partes e se fazendo inteiro.

Biografia 

Fundada pelo batera Américo Rodrigues, a banda completou seus 10 anos de estrada em 2012. Neste ano, o lançamento do álbum ‘Mistura Cultural’, combina os estilos groove, soul, reggae, jazz, afrobeat e os transforma em combustível para a produção de canções autorais. Para o quarteto, o momento reflete ser a nova geração da música suingada brasileira. Hoje formada por Melvin Santhana, cantor e guitarrista, Américo Rodrigues, baterista, Marcelo Bianca, percussão e Renato Cardos, baixo. O repertório dos shows mescla sucessos de grandes intérpretes brasileiros como Luís Vagner, Jorge Benjor, Branca di Neve, Marku Ribas, Tim Maia, com as músicas autorais, “Mistura Cultural” , “É pra dançar”, “4:20” e por aí vai.

A banda `Os Opalas´ foi formada há treze anos, em São Paulo. E desde então vem fazendo várias apresentações na noite paulistana e interior, com um show contagiante, regado com muito suingue e com musicalidade extremamente brasileira.

Hard & Heavy Funk with The Nite-Liters

A masterpiece of hard and heavy funk from one of the best bands of the early 70s! The Nite-Liters were a legendary funky combo that provided the backing for some of New Birth's best albums -- but on their own, they were even funkier, and had a sound that was part JBs, part Meters, and all funky! A few singers from The New Birth provide chorus vocals on a few tracks, but most of the set is instrumental. Every track's a gem and titles include: ""Drumology"", ""Excuse Me While I Do My Thing"", ""Serenade for a Jive Turkey"", ""Happy Hooker"", ""Craaashing"", ""Damn"", ""Pee-Foul"", and a sweet cover of ""Valdez in the Country"".

Harvey Fuqua and Tony Churchill formed the Nite-Liters in 1963 in Louisville. When the band subsequently expanded to 17 members, with a pair of vocal groups and a instrumental ensemble, they were renamed New Birth, Inc. Churchill, Austin Lander, James Baker, Robert Jackson, Leroy Taylor, and Robin Russell were the original bandmembers. Ben Boxtel, Roger Voice, and James Hall were later recruits. They had two mild instrumental hits for RCA in 1971 and 1972, with "K-Jee" making the R&B Top 20.

Começamos o Ano com um som descoberto a pouco tempo por nós, o Year Long Disaster. Um Hard Rock consistente lembrando as bandas dos anos 70...

Year Long Disaster was an American hard rock band from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 2004, the band was composed of vocalist and guitarist Daniel Davies, bassist Rich Mullins and drummer Brad Hargreaves. Hargreaves was later replaced by Rob Oswald, and guitarist William Mecum also joined in a later incarnation of the group.

Daniel Davies and Rich Mullins first met in November 2003, after the bassist had left Karma to Burn and was playing in the band Speedealer. After completing a drug rehabilitation program together, the pair met Brad Hargreaves in November 2004, and after an informal jam session formed Year Long Disaster later. Year Long Disaster signed with Californian record label Volcom Entertainment in May 2007, quickly entering the studio with Tucson, Arizona-based producer Jim Waters and later joining Clutch on a month-long United States tour. The band also supported Norwegian punk rock outfit Turbonegro on the North American What Is Rock Tour, beginning in September 2007.

The band's debut album, Year Long Disaster, was released on August 21, 2007.[4] In July 2008, Year Long Disaster contributed a cover version of the Iron Maiden track "Running Free" to the tribute album Maiden Heaven: A Tribute to Iron Maiden. Later in the year, the group toured with Motörhead alongside Misfits, Valient Thorr and Airbourne. In September 2009, it was reported that Year Long Disaster had begun recording its second studio album at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, California with producer Nick Raskulinecz. Preceded by the single "Show Me Your Teeth", Black Magic; All Mysteries Revealed was released on March 9, 2010. The band also contributed a cover version of The Sword's "Maiden, Mother & Crone" to a split single with the Austin, Texas-based group, released by Volcom in March 2010. Since touring with Karma to Burn members Rob Oswald and William Mecum in 2010 and 2011, Year Long Disaster has remained largely inactive. Davies has since joined CKY in place of founding frontman Deron Miller, both in 2012 and in 2015...
