Who is Marc Bolan? (T. Rex)

Marc Bolan, nome artístico de Mark Feld (Londres, 30 de Setembro de 1947 — Londres, 16 de Setembro de 1977) foi um cantor e guitarrista britânico. Ele ficou mundialmente conhecido como o vocalista e guitarrista da banda britânica de glam rock T.Rex.

T. Rex (originalmente conhecida como Tyrannosaurus Rex), era uma banda de Rock inglesa formada por Marc Bolan. Foi fundada nos anos 60 como um duo de folk rock, mas encontrou o sucesso nos anos 70 como uma banda de glam rock com os hits "; Get It On", "Ride A White Swan", "20th Century Boy", "Children of the Revolution", "Hot Love", "Telegram Sam" e "Metal Guru". Electric Warrior, seu sexto álbum de estúdio, é largamente considerado como um dos principais lançamentos do glam rock britânico. Alcançou o número trinta e dois nos EUA, enquanto foi o número um por várias semanas no Reino Unido, tornando-se o álbum mais vendido de 1971. Em 2003, foi classificado com o número 160 na Lista dos 500 melhores álbuns de sempre da Revista Rolling Stone.

Bolan alegou ter passado tempo com um mago em Paris, que supostamente lhe passou conhecimentos secretos e o poder de levitar. O tempo gasto com ele foi muitas vezes aludido, mas permaneceu "mítico", na realidade, o mago foi provavelmente o ator amerciano Riggs O'Hara, com quem Bolan fez uma viagem a Paris em 1965. Pouco tempo depois, sua composição decolou e ele começou a escrever muitas das neo-canções românticas que iriam aparecer em seu primeiro álbum com o duo de folk rock Tyrannosaurus Rex.

O 16 de setembro de 1977, Bolan retornava de um restaurante a sua casa em Londres, em um Mini, que era dirigido por sua amiga, Gloria Jones. Gloria perdeu o controle bruscamente e o coche colidiu com uma árvore. Ela sofreu ferimentos e Bolan faleceu. A causa do acidente foi que um pneu não tinha a pressão correta. Hoje, o local do acidente, em Barnes, Londres, é um abside a sua memória.

T. Rex - Glam Psych Folk Rock (UK)

T. Rex were an English rock band, formed in 1967 by singer-songwriter and guitarist Marc Bolan. The band was initially called Tyrannosaurus Rex, and released four psychedelic folk albums under this name. In 1969, Bolan began to shift from the band's early acoustic sound to an electric one. The following year, he shortened their name to T. Rex. The 1970 release of the single "Ride a White Swan" marked the culmination of this development, and the group soon became a commercial success as part of the emerging glam rock scene.

From 1970 until 1973, T. Rex encountered a popularity in the UK comparable to that of the Beatles, with a run of eleven singles in the UK top ten. One of the most prominent acts in British popular culture, they scored four UK number one hits, "Hot Love", "Get It On", "Telegram Sam" and "Metal Guru". The band's 1971 album Electric Warrior received critical acclaim as a pioneering glam rock album. It reached number 1 in the UK. The 1972 follow-up, The Slider, entered the top 20 in the US. Following the release of "20th Century Boy" in 1973, which reached number three in the UK, T. Rex began to experience less commercial success but continued recording one album per year.

In 1977, Bolan died in a car crash several months after the release of the band's final studio album Dandy in the Underworld. Since then, T. Rex have continued to exert a vast influence on a variety of subsequent artists.
